Laser Surgery
Restoring Skin with Light Energy
Many types of growths may appear on the skin for a variety of reasons, in the form of warts, for example. In his Mobile, Alabama plastic surgery practice, Dr. Randy Proffitt performs laser surgery using a CO2 laser to remove these growths. Additionally, the CO2 laser may have a smoothing effect on the skin, tightening it for a younger appearance and diminishing pigmentation issues.
Who's a Good Candidate for Laser Surgery?
Treatment with a CO2 laser is ideal for patients of many skin types and can be used on varying areas of the body. If you struggle with a small growth on your skin, in the form of a wart, lump, or bump, treatment with the CO2 laser can remove that raised area and improve your skin's appearance. Patients who exhibit pigmentation inconsistencies or signs of aging like sagging skin may also benefit from a CO2 laser treatment.
The CO2 laser is ideal for correcting:
- visible warts
- skin growths
- lumps or bumps on the skin
- hyperpigmentation
- loose skin
The Procedure: How Laser Surgery Works
The laser procedure can take up to an hour, but is dependent on your skin condition and the size of the area to be treated. In your CO2 laser treatment, Dr. Proffitt will apply focused beams of laser energy to the treatment site. Because the technology is so advanced, a precise treatment is possible. The energy targets the deeper layers of your skin, promoting healing and a rejuvenating process for the skin. In some cases, a topical anesthetic may be used to improve your comfort.
How Will I Look and Feel After Laser Surgery?
Following your laser treatment, your skin may feel tight and you may exhibit some redness at the treatment site. Any discomfort you experience may be managed with medication, but this is often unnecessary. Dr. Proffitt will give you instructions to avoid direct sun exposure for several days as your skin heals. You may also be asked to apply an ointment to your skin to improve healing.
When your skin has healed from the laser treatment, your problem lump or bump will be diminished and your skin may also appear younger and more smooth.
If you struggle with a skin growth or loose skin, a laser surgery treatment may be able to correct it. To learn more about surgery with the CO2 laser in Mobile, Alabama, please contact the office of Dr. Proffitt or join his mailing list.
