Thigh Lift

Contouring of Inner or Outer Thighs

A thigh lift is a procedure that reshapes the inner or outer thighs. Also known as thighplasty, the surgery can treat loose skin, fat deposits, and poor shape in the upper legs.

At our Mobile cosmetic surgery office, thigh lift is a popular body contouring procedure, which is typically chosen by patients who have achieved major weight loss. With a thigh lift, Dr. Proffitt can help restore a slimmer, tighter, and smoother appearance in the thighs.

Who's the Right Candidate for a Thigh Lift?

Most patients who seek thigh lift surgery are individuals who are bothered by:

  • Fat deposits in the inner thighs
  • Loose skin on inner/outer thighs
  • Large thigh circumference

If you are bothered by the appearance of your thighs, and feel that it stands between you and a better body shape, then a thigh lift may be right for you. During a consultation, Dr. Proffitt can determine if thighplasty can meet your goals for improving body shape.

Your Thigh Lift Consultation in Mobile

If you're considering a thigh lift, you should first meet with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options. During a consultation at our Mobile Alabama cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. Proffitt can educate you about the risks, benefits and expected outcome of a thigh lift. To see the results of thigh lift surgery, you can review plastic surgery before and after photos.

If you've experienced major weight loss, Dr. Proffitt may recommend different procedures for body contouring such as body lift, tummy tuck, butt lift or liposuction. Some candidates may benefit from liposuction alone performed on the thighs, and you can discuss that option in your consultation.

How Thigh Lift Surgery Works

Performed here in Mobile, thigh lift surgery is an outpatient procedure that takes about 2 to 3 hours. A general anesthetic is typically used. At the beginning of the operation, Dr. Proffitt marks the areas that are planned for contouring.

During surgery, Dr. Proffitt will make incisions along the inner thighs extending toward the knees. He will then remove sagging loose skin in the thigh areas. If fat needs to be removed, the doctor will perform liposuction, as well.

In another thigh lift technique, the incision extends from the buttock around to the front in the groin crease. The scar is therefore kept within bathing suit or pantyline, the medial thigh is then lifted and suspended to the inner pelvic area. This is best for less looseness than is usually the case in massive weight loss.

After Thigh Lift Surgery

After surgery, patients can realize firmer, slimmer thighs, without uncomfortable loose skin. The initial recovery period is about 2 to 3 weeks. During recovery, patients usually need to rest and limit rigorous physical activity. Dr. Proffitt will provide specific instructions for post-op, including steps to keep the legs elevated and wear elastic compression garments to promote skin contraction.
